Levels & Naming Convention (To be updated to NEW 2026 standards)

For information about the new division nomenclature introduced in 2018, please see below. The ERSL elected to change the division nomenclature to better align with division naming in the senior divisions of the OCSL. This is meant to provide consistency for clubs across leagues.

Tryouts:

All tryouts will begin February 7/9th, full schedule to be announced.

Players attend at least two (2) 60-minute tryout sessions (Beckwith Indoor Soccer Facility, 1319 Beckwith 9th Line), allowing the assessors to score each player based on their best session.

Attending 2 or more tryouts is not mandatory, but it is recommended. Decisions on a player will be based on their best tryout.

Please arrive 20 minutes prior to the start time to check-in with a club representative. Walk-ons are not accepted. Players must be registered at least one day in advance of the next tryout session to attend that session and any subsequent session(s).

Players should wear proper attire which includes: Soccer fitting shorts, regular t-shirt, soccer cleats, shin pads and long socks. Keepers/goalies have the option of wearing a long-sleeve shirt and long-sport pants.

Upon completion of tryouts, the top 18 players will be offered a position on the roster for the 2026 soccer season.

• The tryouts schedule will be posted once determined.

We wish all players attending tryouts good luck.

Exceptions

1) Any teams which are not at the maximum number of 18 players on the roster after the tryout period has ended will be listed on this web page with the number of open spaces indicated. Each additional player will be evaluated at the next applicable spring training session in the order of the date and time of registration and, if successful, will be added to the roster until the team reaches the maximum of 18 players.

2) Extenuating circumstances: Up to a maximum of the first two (2) players who indicate that they cannot make any of the two tryouts during the tryout period due to 'extenuating circumstances' can contact the Club Manager, and provide a description of the circumstance. Upon Board approval:

  • The players attending tryouts will be informed that there is an extenuating circumstance.
  • The top 16 players will be selected by the end of the tryout period, the players evaluated at the 17 and 18 spots will be informed that their making the team is pending, plus up to two players with their extenuating circumstance approved will bring the total player list up to 20.
  • The player(s) who had their extenuating circumstance approved must attend at least one of the first two spring training sessions to be evaluated.
  • Between the second and third spring training session, offers for the 17th and 18th spaces on the roster will be made.

3) A team roster is not required to reach the maximum of 18 should tryouts, or subsequent evaluations indicate that only 15, 16, or 17 players, for example, demonstrate that level of play.

Please note: Players who are unsuccessful making a Competitive team can play in the Recreational program, allowing them to continue enjoying the game while further developing their skills. Please note: The next two (2) top players may be given the option to train with the team during the spring sessions provided they plan to attend the Recreational program; these two players may be the primary 'call-ups' to the Competitive team throughout the season if/when needed.

Teams will be placed in either the C2 or C1 (the most competitive) division of the EOSL based on the skill assessed during the tryout period. (Please note that the tier system in under review with Ontario Soccer, so this may change)

Spring Training Feb 21/23 - May 9/11

Players attend 12 spring training sessions. These sessions are designed to condition/prepare players and the team for the upcoming soccer season. All sessions are at the Beckwith Indoor Soccer Facility, 1319 Beckwith 9th Line, east of Highway 15.

• The spring training schedule will be posted once determined.

Games, Practices and Tournaments

The EOSL season starts in May (Date TBA) and runs until the last week of August, or the first week of September, depending on any re-schedules, etc. Players commit to two (2) practices and one (1) game each week for the season.

Teams play in the Eastern Ontario Soccer League (EOSL) which provides healthy competition throughout eastern Ontario. Game locations, dates and times are set by the EODSA in early May once the total number of teams is finalized.

The game nights for 2026 can be found on the EOSL website.

Practices and home games are held in Carleton Place and Beckwith Township. Your coach will contact you about the days, start and end times for practices when determined by the club in the spring.

Tournaments are a great way for players and teams to further develop their skills and strategies. All Carleton Place United teams are encouraged to participate in the MIST Tournament, as the CPSC is the host club.

Typically, teams attend 1-3 additional tournaments throughout the season, as determined by the coach in consultation with the parents and players. (Please note that tournament fees are not included in the registration fee. Fundraising submitted for approval is an option teams can pursue to help cover tournament costs.)

Team Name

All teams in the Development, Competitive and Premier soccer programs are registered with the EODSA as Carleton Place United:

  • Carleton Place represents the foundation on which our soccer club was established.
  • United welcomes players from our neighbouring towns and communities to play the beautiful game.
